Lobby Wrap: Vaccine passport tech key topic - iPolitics.ca

TeqMarq hopes its chip technology will be part of Ottawa’s plan to bring in vaccine passports in the coming months to make it easier for Canadians to travel overseas.

According to its website, TeqMarq, founded in 2018, has developed wearable smart technology, and is looking for procurement opportunities related to vaccine passports and other medical data. Target departments include Agri-Food Canada, Canada Border Services Agency, Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, and the Canada Revenue Agency.

Over the summer, the Federal Anti-Racism Secretariat, which was established two years ago, kicked off its anti-racism summit series, which aims to gather information to help shape a national anti-racism action plan expected to be launched next year. The move comes after calls to level the playing field for Black, Brown, Indigenous peoples and other minorities in areas like employment and business opportunities.

The Federation of African Canadian Economics (FACE), which seeks to empower Black Canadian entrepreneurs, is reaching out to the government to discuss programs that support Black Canadian business owners and entrepreneurs. According to its filings, FACE expects to receive funding from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada this year.

Just for Laughs Toronto Festival was registered by Liam Daly of Sussex Strategy Group to work with the government to to support cultural organizations during the pandemic with new programs like the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy and the Emergency Support Funds for Cultural Heritage and Sports Organizations. In the previous fiscal year, the Just for Laughs Toronto Festival received $64,850 from the Government of Ontario and $48,125 from Canadian Heritage.

In recent energy/environment/climate registrants:

Kanata Clean Power and Climate Technologies Corp. was registered by Drew Fagan and Mark Resnick of McMillan Vantage Policy Group to reach out to Environment and Climate Change Canada, Finance Canada and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada on a variety of issues, including Investment Tax Credits for Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage Projects and various other policies related to the reduction of greenhouse-gas emissions.

GS1 Canada was registered by Allyson Grant of StrategyCorp Inc. to discuss the global standards of health care products that enter Canada’s healthcare supply chain. According to the filing, the company is hoping to work with officials from Finance Canada, Health Canada and Public Health Agency of Canada.

In recent tech/communications registrants:

Brane Inc., a subsidiary beneficiary of Big Index, was registered by Brian Klunder of Temple Scott Associates Inc., to explore policies related to digital currency and the awareness of digital asset securities with the Bank of Canada, Canada Border Services Agency, Canada Revenue Agency and other departments. In the previous financial year, Brane Inc. received $93,844 from National Research Council, but does not expect to receive funding this fiscal year.

Of note:

Capilano Students’ Union was registered by a member of the board of directors, Aryanna Chartrand, to develop programs to support students during the pandemic. The union is also hoping to open discussions with various departments on the Trans Mountain Expansion project and its environmental impact, as well as Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations related to work hours for international students and the extension of post-graduate work permits. In the previous financial year, Capilano Students’ Union received $25,550 from Service Canada and $5,000 from the BC Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture.

Allyson Grant of StrategyCorp Inc. registered Educational Testing Services to seek support from officials with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on its pitch to provide language testing services to those applying for Canadian citizenship, permanent residence, and visas.
