City directories will be topic for Temecula Valley Genealogical Society - Press-Enterprise

Jean Wilcox Hibben, a genealogist, author, storyteller and national speaker, will speak on “City Directories: More than Address Books” when the Temecula Valley Genealogical Society meets 5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, in Community Room B of the Ronald H. Roberts Temecula Public Library, 30600 Pauba Road.

Guests are welcome.

In her presentation, Hibben will show how to use various techniques to locate ancestors in city directories. That information will also be useful for using the 1950 U.S. Census and its enumerator districts, according to a news release. The 1950 census will be available April 1.

The Temecula Valley Genealogical Society, founded in 1998, offers monthly meeting program and a newsletter covering a variety of information related to genealogy and family history research. The society also has monthly special-interest classes on topics such as understanding and using one’s DNAresults, genealogy research practices for beginners and inspiration for writing family history as stories for current and future generations.

Two upcoming events are the society’s Salt Lake City genealogy trip and its annual essay and scholarship contest for high school students. For information on either event, contact Susan Puma, president of the Temecula Valley Genealogical Society, at swpuma@puma-appsci.com.
